They should hereafter be utilized by the Principal in Charge with the Department Chief Engineers and Division Directors ( Engineering Directors in Regional Offices) to establish the scope of work for each discipline in the Schematic and Design Development Phases of our Work.

1.           Conduit Systems

(a)       Neat arrangement of exposed conduits.

(b)       Protective coating on metal conduit buried in earth.

(c)       Adequate supports independent of supports for any other equipment.

(d)       Fish wire in empty conduit.

(e)       Clearance from motor foundations and use of flexible connections at motor terminals.

(f)        Protective caps double locknuts and insulated bushings on conduit terminations.

(g)       No aluminum conduit in concrete. Sleeves when aluminum conduit passes masonry walls.

(h)       Expansion fittings on all raceways crossing building expansion ioints.

(i)        Fire alarm and smoke detection systems raceways should be steel conduits.

(j)        In NYC - conduit in concrete slabs - conformance with Building Department restrictions.

2.           Wire & Cable

(a).  Color coding or taping.

(b).  Limiter lugs on multi-conductor feeders.

(c).  Access to pull boxes.

(d).  Neat arrangement (shaping) of cables in pull boxes, panels and

     Switchboards.

(e).  Cable supports on risers.

(f).  Increase wire size for runs over 100'.

(g).  No threaded wire nuts for wire splicing.

(h).  Not more than 3 circuits (4 wires) per conduit homerun, except as noted.

3.           Underfloor wiring Systems

(a).  Clean ducts and junction boxes.

(c).  Access units to clear partitions.

(d).  Ground conductor connected to all metal components for fiber duct

     systems.

(e).   Properly support all ducts and junction boxes in conformance with spec.

4.           Busways

(a).   Continuous ground bar throughout entire length of bus and its grounding.

(b).   Non-ferrous drip pans under pipes crossing over bus.

(c).   Firestops in bus runs in conformance with spec.

(d).   8'-0" minimum height of bus runs.

(e).   Protective temporary covers over bus bars left exposed during

      construction.

(f).   Bus support in conformance with spec.

(g).   Expansion fittings in conformance with spec.

(h).   Accessibility of all joints.

(i).   Cover plate extension through walls and floor.

5.           Transformers

(a).  Mounting in conformance with spec.

(b).  Located to permit natural ventilation.

(a)           Check for elevator pit lights and receptacles.

(b)          Check elevator shaft for 120 volt and telephone outlets.

13.        Watchman’s Tour

(a).   Check station codes and routes of tour.

(a).   Galvanized ladder rungs, inserts and racks.

(b).   Thoroughly clearened out prior to energizing cables.
